I'm looking for Vincenzo LoDuca, born abt 1856 and arrived in New York 2/4/1911. He was married to Carmela Lentini. That's where I'm stuck. I have no info about them past that. Help? Thanks in advance! Sarah Lough

OK, My grandmother is in tears. She never thought she would know who her family was. This is amazing. She tells me that she knew her aunts and uncles to be:

Giovanna - stayed in Italy
Joseph
Lena
Suzanna
Tony
Vincent

To know their birth month/year is just amazing and so far back!
Know that you're making dreams come true for her, and me.

Thanks so much! Please let me know if you are able to find anything else and I'll start searching all the registries that you all have posted. I'm addicted now!
Very Happy

I suspect Lena may have been Antonina....that's what they did in my family..We had an aunt Lena, who passed away, and only then did we find her name was actually Maria Antonina.

I will look for Susanna...I may have missed it. Or possibly she was born here?

I'll let you know if I find anything.

We are all thrilled to find we were helpful to any of our cousins.

My regards to your Grandmother. Tell her that's what I went thru. This is where I found my family and I cried too. Thru this site I was able to connect to my Father's Sister's family here in the United States. We have been in constant contact ever since.

Jim Bianco deserves a halo!!

I have checked anything I could to find Suzanna. No Luck. I couldn't find her traveling to the U.S. thru Ellis Island either. She may have come thru another port but I don't have access at this time.

I searched for the parents of Vincenzo who married Olimpia. The only record I could find of a Vincenzo marrying an Olimpia was:

Vincenzo Lo Duca (Son of Antonino Lo Duca & Antonia) married Olimpia Passalacqua (Daughter of Bernardo Passalacqua and Eulalia) in Carini on 11/27/1762.

The time period is right but I can't verify it's the right one. Don't give up hope. Michel is working on connecting the families of Carini and hopefully, in time, he will be able to verify this. Once that happens we should be able to take you back to the mid 1500's.

Your Angelo and My Dad came to the U.S. a month apart. I suspect your grandmother and I are about the same age.

My grandmother will be 74 in July.
I'm tracking, moveover, keeping it all organized through ancestry.com I don't have a membership at the moment, but just an account.
What records are you looking at? How do you go about finding all these people?
Thank you so much! My grandmother sends her thanks, too! Sarah

According the death certificate of Vincenzo, his birthdate is Aug. 4, 1865. He died in Faith Hospital on Dec. 16, 1939 partly due to Bronchial Pneumonia. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery on Dec. 19, 1939. At the time of his death he was a widower.
His address at the time of his death was 7315 Commonwealth, St. Louis.

According to the death certificate of Tony, his birthdate is 2/14/1893. He died in City Hospital on Apr. 12, 1951 of Coronary Thrombosis. He was divorced. His address was 7315 Commonwealth, St. Louis.

I can send you copies of these certificates if you'd like to have them.

I'm 72 - and Im looking for anything that will help.

I was in St. Louis a few years ago. My brother 'Candy' was the Wood River, Il. Fire Chief for many years. After he retired his favorite passtime was to shop at 'The Hill' in St. Louis. After he died I visited the area to walk in his footsteps. If they had food here in Portland like they do in St. Louis I'd never stop eating!!!

Smile

Which Vincenzo are we talking about? I'm guessing Angelo LoDuca's father. There are alot of Vincenzo's in his line. Smile And is Tony Antonino LoDuca?
The Hill is incredible. We just ate at Trattorio Marsala's for my sister's 16th Birthday. You're right; if I lived closer to the Hill I wouldn't be able to stop eating. My mother owns a restaurant here in Washington, MO called Choco L'Art (www.mmmchocolart.com) You'll have to visit sometime.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! Sarah

O, and my grandmother is thinking that Suzzana is actually Giovanna. She remembers her father always calling her Vana and she assumed that her real name was Suzzana, so. . .
Giovanna is the only one that we know of that stayed in Italy from the LoDuca family. Anything you know of her is greatly appreciated. We are wanting to visit Carini and would LOVE to know if there are any relatives still there. Talk soon, Sarah

The death certificate is for Carmela's husband. The Tony is Antonino. There is quite a bit of confirming info on these certificates.

As to Giovanna - I think you're right. It's not unusual for that nickname.

if you'd like copies of these certs email me at eyetalgal @ aol.com (no spaces please) so I can send them directly to you.

we may have to do a little detective work on Giovanna.

When the Lo Duca family came over they were going to Vincenzo and Carmela's son-in-law Salvatore Cilluffo. Antonina stated she was going to her brother-in-law Salvatore Cilluffo.

My guess would be that Salvatore Cilluffo was Giovanna's husband, since she was the only other daughter.

Our marriage records only go to 1905 so we don't have confirmation on this.

I'll keep looking

I did a search sometime last year that showed a marriage between Giovanna LoDuca and Guiseppe Gelard in Carini on Nov 28, 1899. I think I found it on the Carini exchange website, but I can't get the excel files to pull up for some reason. I've had trouble with them all day; sometimes they open, sometimes they don't?

Antonina married Sam Ciluffo and had Vincent, Tony, Carmella, Josephine, and Frank. I have spouses and children for each of these children, too. Grandma's mind is working. Very Happy

But as for Salvatore, I have no clue. All I know about a Salvatore is that Carmella Ciluffo married Louis Petrilia and named a son Salvatore, but they called him Skippy. And that's going the other way, so?

Filippo baptized 12/13/1899 / Vincenzo baptized 3/20/1902 / Giuseppe born 2/20/1906 and baptized 2/21/1906.

I'm off to dreamland...will try more tomorrow
