I know that my grandfather was born in Sicily and was in the Navy. My grandmother was from Malta, and my father and his sisters were born on Malta. They imagrated to the US around 1917. The last name was Millazzo, not sure about that spelling, as they changed it to Miles. So should I start my search in Malta? I haven't found anything on the Malta Family History index web site.
I'm open to suggestions !

Grandfather is Joseph Milazzo. My father is Caesar Miles, born on Malta in 1913. I beleive there are cousins still in Malta named Piscopo.

Hello

Perhaps if you gave us more info...first names, location in the U.S., etc. we can do some searching for you.

For instance, there is a family of Milazzo who came to the U.S. thru Ellis Island in 1913. They came from Catania but gave their nationality as Maltese. A father (Antonio - 65), his wife (Agata Sapia - 59) and their daughter (Angela - 15)

LDS Family History Center has Malta Vital Records on microfilm that can be searched at the local FHC if you order the film. I think the records are from the 1700's thru 1849.

Another suggestion...submit your inquiry to the Italian Genealogy forum which has several very helpful members who have some useful resources, at ItalianGenealogy.com

Please let me know if I can help

I would start your search with American records first and work backwards. Start with what you know...much easier this way and obtain a many American records as you can.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong record, but I think the one you see says they are from Bronte, Catania..The first passenger on the list is from Malta.

I'm going to have a closer look.

Hi Nuccia

I can give you a clue to research.

We're looking for Caesar Miles born in 1913 in Malta. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 3/21/1944. Record shows he was married and living in Brooklyn at the time. (I've already sent the record to Bonnie)

I've exhausted my resources.....maybe you can find something else.

Thanks,
Ang

Thanks Ang...

I'll have a look and see if I can come up with anything.
Very Happy
