James,
I just joined. Just a note of thanks for setting up this forum. My nonna is from Carini Her maiden name was Flavia Pisano. born 9-15-1886. i actually have her birth records. She was the daughter of Vincenzo. Nonno is from Castelbuono about 100km from Carini. That's who I really need help with. His name is Tommaso Girosolino. Born 3-6-1881. The family legend is that he was " a boy of the streets" Possible adoption. But he was able to write his name, and read some italian, so there was some education in his life. They came to the US on 3-15-1909. They Lived on Henry St. in Brooklyn, with Nonna's brother Anthony. I hope with some of the papers my mom has and your site, i can get more info on my family. Any info anyone has on my family names or Castelbuono would be most appreciated.

Thank you again,
Fran

Hello Fran, and Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you found us. Right now the website is undergoing some updates from our server but as soon as it's back up I am sure we will be able to help you find more information on your Carini ancestors.

Very Happy

A couple of of notes...on the going to see column it says she is going to see her husband Antonio Franco but on the detained passenger list it say Tomasso is her husband. There is also a notation on page one..could it be her naturalization info?

Dear James and Nuccia,

Thank you for the additional info. I have Tommaso's citizenship papers. I never knew that nonna came over on a different ship. I seem to not be able to access the links on your message. May be when the web site is updated. Are there any links regarding adoption in Sicily?

Grazie and Ciao

---

Francesco Pisano (son of Filippo Pisano & Filippa Carebici)

---

James,
do you know how hard it is to type a note of thanks when there are tears in your eyes??? I can not believe you did all of this......how? You are wonderful. I can not wait to share this info with my cousins. I wish there was this much info on my grandfather. I think that might be a dead end because there is a chance he was apdoted. We think that is his real name, but are not certain. The name is very close to the word for sunflower.

Much love and thanks.

Fran, I am very happy that I was able to help! All of the original church records images I cited are available on My Resources page here:

My cousin Angelina has taken the painstaking effort to extract the pertitent data from the original images on-site into excel spreadsheets, which are also linked on the page above. Without her amazing work I would not have been able to locate the data so quickly. She is a godsend!

I am sorry I do not have access to your grandfather's town, I hope you are able to eventually find his family. Perhaps visiting your local mormon Family History Center will help? They have all of the original Birth, Marriage and Death records 1820-1910 on Microfilm.

Here is the page where your earliest Pisano ancestor (Francesco) married in 1573. His entry "Francesco Pissano" is on the left side second from bottom. He is also my ancestor, through his son Giuseppe.
