I'm trying to determine who the correct parents are of Matthei
Badalamenti (married to Grazia Lo Grasso on November 30, 1816.) I haven't been able to find a baptism record for Matthei.

Matthei's marriage record in the spreadsheet is #1281, page #57.

According to the record, his parents were Antonino and Anna, and
no maiden name is shown for Anna.

And here is the scan:

In the second (right hand) column, I can see "Matthei Badalamenti" ..
.. Antonino...Anna Badalamenti.."

Here is my dilemma:

For Matthei's parents, Anna and Antonino, I've located two possibilities.

There are two marriages in the 1568-1910 spreadsheet, between an Antonino Badalamenti and an Anna, close enough in proximity that without
having additional information, I can't determine which is the correct set of parents for Matthei.

Possibility #1:

Record #1134 in the spreadsheet (no page # shown) - Marriage year: 1797.

Groom 1st name: Antonino, Groom last name: Badalamenti, Father of groom: Leonardo, Mother of groom: Rosa, Bride first name: Anna, Bride last name: Canepa, Bride's father: Antonino, Bride's mother: Vincenza.

Possibility #2:

Record #1135 in the spreadsheet (no page # shown) - marriage year 1780.

Groom 1st name: Antonino, Groom last name: Badalamenti, Father of groom: Domenico, Mother of groom: Maria, Bride first name:Anna, Bride last name: Cracchiolo, Bride's father: Matteo, Bride's mother: Maria.

There are a few more Antonino-Anna marriages but the marriage years are so far off that I can rule them out.

I'm not sure how to proceed (though perhaps if I can show that Matthei had much older brothers and sisters I can rule out possibility #1.)

Thanks,

Gaspare

I scanned thru the records for the period right after Matteo's marriage, in case there was a hint, and it looks like his first child (a son) was named Salvatore Antonino Santo.....baptized Nov. 1817. No clue as to who the grandparents were tho.

In March 1820 they baptized a daughter, Anna, and the godparents were Domenico Badalamenti and Anna (no surname) - possibly the grandfather of Matteo?

In January 1823, they baptized a son, Antonino, and the Godparents were Antonino Badalamenti and Anna Badalamenti. (Grandparents?)

In May 1825, they baptized a daughter, Angela. Godparent very difficult to read first name, looks like Domenico Badalamenti

Michel is working on connecting the families and he may be close to the period you're looking for. Maybe he'll be able to find her in the civil records.

Thanks for your help! While I wait, I decided to follow another Badalamenti line (Matthei's son Antonino married another Badalamenti). I traced that back to the 1500s.

At least possibly the grandfather (the record states the godparents to be Domenico Badalmenti and Anna, his daughter (ejus filia) Given that the 2nd candidate above was the son of Domenico and Anna the circumstantial proof here is enough for me! (I also believe the 1797 marriage a tad too close considering Antonino and Anna would have named their first two sons Leonardo and Antonino (according to tradition)

The godparents are listed by their full names here, indicating to me Anna Badalmenti was indeed a Badalmenti by birth (probably the same who served as godparent above). When a husband and wife are listed as Godparents they are usually listed as "Antonino Badalmenti and Anna et exur (his wife)"

The godfather's name is abbreviated and I can't figure out (because of the bleed through) what it is. The godmother is Giovanna (Joanna) Badalmenti.

Great work finding all of this Ang (as usual!)

Very Happy
