My grandmother and uncles never referred to my grandfather's brother by name, only by the title of "The General". I believe, however, his real name was Giuseppe Randazzo of Carini (b, 1894), son of Giuseppe Randazzo and Giuseppa Cusumano. My grandfather was his younger brother Giosue (Josue) Randazzo. A story passed on to our family was that after Italy joined the Allied side during WWII, General Randazzo was captured by the Germans. He was placed before a firing squad, but was fortunately recognized by a German officer and was thus saved. The part about being a General is true. I can't verify the second part of the story; however, it makes for a nice family legend to pass to future generations.

Good Story!

In his case it was not "who you know" but who knows you!

Still a great story, though.

Thanks for sharing it. Very Happy

I too have heard the stories of a General Giuseppi Randazzo in my family. My father has some 8mm video of the General, his wife, and daughter in Carini during the sixties. As soon as I figure how to get them onto my computer I can post them.

I'd love to see those videos. If its the same General Giuseppe Randazzo, then its likely that we're closely related. What is your relationship to the General?

I would love to see this video as well! Perhaps you two are closely related.

Very Happy

My father said the General was my grandfather's cousin.
My grandfather's name is Francesco Randazzo.
I am getting the video from my sister today!

That would make your grandfather my grandfather's cousin as well, and if my calculations are correct, you would be a 3rd cousin of mine. I found on my family tree a "Francesco" who was christened on January 21, 1904. He is the son of Croce Randazzo and Margherita Randazzo (Randazzo is both her maiden name and her married name). Francesco's wife was Angela Monteleone. Would this Francesco be your grandfather?
